Rod and I have been talking about getting married for a while, however I was still very surprised when he proposed to me on my birthday (June 14th). I hadn't had the best day and was just looking forward to spending my evening with him. When I open the door to the apartment I saw that he had wrapped up a bicycle and it was in the middle of our living room. It was mostly wrapped in some fabric I had lying around, and it was obvious that the one roll of gold wrapping paper had not done the job. I was already touched and he told me to read the card first. It was an audio card with Phil from Modern Family on the cover:
Not that exact picture but an equally geeky one. It read "Another birthday and you're still cool" and the inside audio was a quote of Phil trying to be cool and hip. I laughed and read the message inside, along the lines of hoping this birthday will never be forgotten. And when I turned around to thank Rod for the sweet card I saw him with a ring box in his hand, starting to kneel. He asked me "will you ask me to marry you?" which didn't even hit me because I was already saying yes to "will you marry me" and I knelt down and hugged him and was crying and he pointed out he'd asked that way because in the ring box was his engagement ring, a Brazilian tradition. My ring is on its way... they don't make many non-diamond engagement rings for children (I have very tiny hands).

Awwww! Thanks for posting the story! I've been super curious! The engagement ring for the guy is a German tradition, too. Though Martin hates it. He likes the "equal-value engagement gift" like a flatscreen TV or something.
ReplyDelete:D I just got the actual engagement ring today!!! I'll post it soon
